Obituary for Ann F Zigo (Slivko)

Ann F. Zigo, nee Slivko, 95, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2014 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Born and raised in the steel town of McKeesport, PA, Ann moved to New York City at the age of 16 with her sister, to work and help provide for her mother in Pennsylvania. She started out as a domestic, then became a server at the Fifth Avenue Shrafft’s restaurant, eventually working her way up to a lead waitress, serving the elite of NYC. She married her beloved husband John S. Zigo in 1944 and then worked as a bank teller before devoting the rest of her life to taking care of her family. Ann was a former resident of Washington Heights, and a longtime resident of Riverdale, Bronx where she was an active parishioner at St. Gabriel’s R.C. Church. She then moved to Brick, NJ in 1991. Ann enjoyed dancing with her husband, and traveling with their friends to the Pocono’s in the summer. They were avid and dedicated members of the AARP, traveling frequently on bus trips up and down the east coast. Ann loved sewing and reading, and when she wasn’t winning at bingo, she could always be found watching an old movie. She was also an excellent cook who loved life and cherished friendships. Ann took great joy in being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, spending quality time with her family. She always greeted everyone with a warm smile, had a genuine and giving heart, and will be greatly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, John S. Zigo in 2012, her dear siblings, John Slivko, and Elizabeth (Betty) Noorigian and husband George, and her loving daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Robert E. Slocum, Jr.
Surviving are her cherished granddaughter, Beth Ann Slocum-Mackey and her husband Brian, her nephews, Dennis (Diane), George (Sharon), Kenny (Mary) and all of their children, as well as many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 2:00 to 6:00PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 3rd at St. Martha’s R.C. Church, Point Pleasant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ann’s memory to the AARP Foundation, PO Box 93207, Long Beach, CA 90809 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
