Obituary for Gerald P. "Jerry" Egan

Gerald Patrick Egan, of Tinton Falls, NJ, passed away on December 16. Jerry was born in Newark, NJ, on January 13, 1938, to Patrick and Elizabeth (Grady) Egan.

Jerry graduated from Seton Hall Prep, in 1955, and then Seton Hall University, in 1959. After graduation, he worked as a certified public accountant for the accounting firm Haskins & Sells before starting an accounting firm, Egan & Baier, with his lifelong friend Frank Baier. Jerry received an MBA from New York University. He provided tax and financial services to individuals and small business clients from across the Jersey Shore for nearly four decades.

Jerry was a parishioner at St. Catharine’s in Spring Lake for more than 30 years, and he was a longtime supporter of Covenant House. He loved Seton Hall University basketball, and had a passion for golf. He was a member of Spring Lake Golf Club for more than three decades. But above all else, he cared about his people--his family and his friends. He valued loyalty to those close to him, and he lived his life with an unwavering commitment to the ideals of honesty, integrity, compassion and hard work.

He loved Barbara (Reck) Egan, and they were married for 27 years, building a home and starting a family in Spring Lake Heights. She passed away in 1995 but her love remained with him and buoyed him during his long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He also was predeceased by his brother Jack McLaughlin and his sisters Mary Harrington and Dorothy Devenny. He is survived by his brother Jim McLaughlin and his sister Nancy Tully, both of Avon; his son Patrick Egan and his wife, Gia Accardi, and their son, Max, all of Brooklyn; his son Timothy Egan and his wife, Chantelle, and their daughters, Eloise and Adeline, all of San Francisco; and his daughter Kate Radocchio, her husband, Mike, and their daughters, Sophie and Clementine, all of Little Silver.

Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
