Louis J.  Vitale
Louis J. Vitale, 96, of Brick passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Born and raised in Bayonne, Louis graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange with both a Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degrees. He then entered the priesthood and over a 30 year career he served as Pastor of Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Bayonne and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City. After leaving the priesthood, he married his beloved wife, Janice R. Vitale and went to work as a recycling coordinator for the Township of Brick before retiring in 2000. He was a member of The Church of St. Martha’s in Point Pleasant.
His loving wife, Janice R. Vitale predeceased him in 2014 as well as all of his siblings. Surviving are his step-children, Michael Wintjen of Voorhees, Mark Wintjen of Hazlet, Sharon Monzo also of Hazlet, Marissa Koch of Point Pleasant and Stacey Napoli of Brick. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Affectionately known as “Pop”, he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Visiting will be on Thursday from 4-8pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road in Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday 11am at St. Martha’s RC Church in Point Pleasant. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine’s Cemetery in Sea Girt. Donations may be made in his name to The Church of St. Martha, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742.
