Condolence: Though I never joined ROTC in high school in the 80's - I would always get the sense of what a great man he was & was probably the best role model & teacher - zll just by passing him in the hallways & hearing bits of conversation between himself & students. I also got the sense that the cadets connected to him at a high level & that he was probably their greatest & best influence in school & in life. I went on to become a U.S. Naval Aircrewman & from time to time would be wondering how he was doing. My jaw dropped in surprise when I moved back to Brick in 2013 to see that he was still there still teaching & positively influencing young men & women just like he did in the 80's. RIP Master Sergeant.

Condolence: MSgt Tierney was a true American patriot, friend, father figure and mentor to myself and countless other individuals. I wish I had gotten to visit with him one more time, there are so many things I wish I could say but all I can do is offer my condolences to his family and wish you guys the best. I know this is a naval phrase but from a guy who joined because of him, Fair winds and following seas.

Condolence: MSgt Tierney was a great man, teacher and Airman. He gave all his students his full efforts and attention. He gave us so much hope and belief in ourselves. He personally made me believe in myself and inspired me in ways he could never have known. As a 20 year Air Force member, his lessons are with me every day in the way I mentor young folks and the way I try to uplift them. He undoubtedly is the greatest man to wear the uniform. I have been meaning to see him for a while but with deployment schedules and work, I kept on telling myself next time. I just learned of his passing by looking him up on the internet to see if he was still at the school. I sincerely apologize to his family for not knowing of his ailment or his passing. Sir, you have touched thousands upon thousands of lives. You will be missed. Godspeed. I hope you know you were a success with me, a kid who most thought worthless. I thank you for your inspiration. I will miss you and the times we shared.

Condolence: My deepest condolences to the Tierney family and to all of those who cared for MSgt. James Tierney. I first met Sgt. Tierney as a 14 year old freshmen in the AFJROTC program in 1992. I will always remember him silently creeping up on us at the Fort Dix BIVOUAC, the trip the two of us took to Lakehurst Naval Station to shop for my aviation headset (courtesy of the USAF ATC!), and the sergeant accidentally setting off the barracks alarm trying to stop a false smoke alarm at 00:30 hours, causing both the bas MP's and the fire department to arrive and clear the building! (not the sergeant's fault.) It was his kindness, his leadership, and his love for the cadets in the AFJROTC program that helped shape me into the husband, father, and man i am today. And for that, i will aways be grateful and thankful to him. Good speed, sergeant.

Condolence: I first met Jimmy while working at Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle. Jimmy was the maintenance man and I worked on the Golf Carts and Caddied.Jimmy was a guy that you would be friends as soon as you met him. He helped me out many times. I also met his son, Shawn while we were doing work while the club closed down in February. I knew his siter Jean also and all three were the best people. I know you will miss him as I will and remember the great man that he was. You only meet a great man like Jimmy once in a while, He was a rare breed. I know he will be missed but He is with the Lord, telling him some of his great stories. Farewell, Jimmy, I'll see you again in Heaven, save a place for me near you....I love you, Brother..

Condolence: Sarge, you touched more lives and molded more leaders than any man I know. When things were down and out you taught us how to turn it around and how to perservere. You changed my life starting the day I entered your classroom. You took a boy who fit in nowhere, who was not part of anything, just a loner, and you taught me how to not only fit into any group I wanted to, but how to lead that group as well. My successes in life are largely due to your lessons in life. The world has lost an icon, but the impact you made on the world will never be lost, instead it will be passed from generation to generation. My condolences to the Family, but my heartfelt appreciation to them as well for sharing you with the rest of us. Aim High Sarge, Aim High.

Condolence: MSGT Tierney was and will always be what a true VETERAN is and what a TRUE HERO IS. He was both and so much more. He touched so many lives that his memory will go on forever. All of us will think him and we will all miss him. My deepest sympathies go out to his whole family and may God Bless you all. Tom F "GOD SPEED JIM" “HIGH FLIGHT” Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sun-ward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air... Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark or even eagle flew -- And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high UN-trespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Condolence: Sarge- you were amazing and will forever be remembered. Your presence brought light to darkness, smiles to faces, and laughter to all. Your stories were hysterical, with deeper life lessons encompassed in each one. You were a rock and support to so many of us. You taught us well- of discipline, respect, team work, and most importantly, friendship. After a decade, I still watch No Time for Sergeants and think of you each time. You brought pride to this country, the Air Force, Brick Memorial, and each of us - thank you, for being you, and for being such an inspiring mentor . ..."and, so, i said to myself, self," Sarge will be missed. Condolence: There are some people that you meet in your life that make a lasting impact. Sarge, you were one of those people. You pushed me to be more than I thought I could. Always upbeat, always ready to make us laugh, even when breaking your ribs you still wanted to go on our survival trip to the base. Whether it was lunch in the office or just sitting in class talking, you shaped and impacted so many lives with the words that you shared, the advice and wisdom that you gave, and the ears that so often willingly listened. You always treated us like the adults we were preparing to be. I will be forever greatful to you and for having known you. I'll have some fries with mayo tonight for dinner and keep you in my thoughts. The world has lost an amazing man today. Rest In Peace Sarge, you will wholeheartedly be missed by many.

Condolence: MSgt (Retired) James Tierney was an amazing teacher, mentor, and friend. Sgt Tierney was easily one of the best teachers and mentors I've ever had and the reason I joined the Air Force in the first place. I never had another teacher such as Sgt Tierney that cared so much for his students and always took the time to listen, provide advice, and go out of his way to ensure they were taken care of. He has helped so many students and service members throughout his life that he was truly a blessing to the community and to those who have met him. He will always be my #1 teacher/mentor and he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Sgt Tierney and my condolences to your family!!

Condolence: Sarge, Almost ten years after graduating BTMHS, when I think of people that prepared me for college and grad school, you've always been one of them. Thank you for your wisdom and your knowledge, and for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself. Thank you for always being available in the office to talk about anything, whether it was good or bad. Some of my favorite memories of ROTC were just you talking to us in class - no movie, no real lesson plan at all, just us talking about whatever. Thank you for your service to our country and to the AFJROTC units at BTMHS and BTHS. You will be so dearly missed.
