Obituary for Thomas Patrick Murphy

Thomas Patrick Murphy, 77, passed away on April 22 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Atlantic City to the late Ruth and Bernie Murphy, he was a long time resident of Spring Lake and Spring Lake Heights. He was a proud United States Marine and attended St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH.

He enjoyed many successes throughout his life including owning and operating Getty and Mahoney Placement Services in New York City. However, his proudest achievements came as the administrator of St Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church in Spring Lake, lovingly restoring and preserving its beauty.

He was a die-hard NY Mets and Giants fan and loved Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish Football. Through his life Tom loved fishing on his boat, his chair on the beach, winters in Florida, and RV’ing with his family. He never once missed a Manasquan football game or practice while his sons were playing and he was known for his willingness to help anyone.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Gail (nee Cameron); his daughters Kristin McHugh (Patrick), Erin Jacobs (Matthew); sons Timothy Murphy (Jessica Hubbard) and Michael Murphy (Kara). Also, by his sisters Joanne Murphy Dwyer of Atlantic City and Tricia Duffy and her husband Barney of Port Charlotte, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. His greatest joy was being so involved with his 10 grandchildren, Caroline, Kendall, Patrick, Avery, Brady, Jack, Cameron, Keegan, Kiernan and Lillian.

Known for his outgoing personality and his Irish wit, he will be missed by all those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name can be made to the Bardet Biedl Foundation, www.bardetbiedl.org the rare genetic disorder that affects his dearly loved grandson Keegan Thomas Murphy.
