The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Richard Kelly can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Richard Arthur Kelly 73, of Manasquan, NJ died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born in Trenton, NJ, Richard lived in Brick prior to Manasquan for the past 25 years. Richard was a graduate of Monmouth College and earned his Master’s Degree at Stevens Institute of Technology. He was a teacher of mathematics at Pt. Pleasant Borough High School until his retirement. He was President of the Pt. Pleasant Borough Teachers Association and the Grievance Chairman for many years. He was an avid supporter of teacher rights and served at the state level on the working conditions committee. Richard helped coach Mid-Monmouth basketball in Manasquan for several years.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Kelly. Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara (Hersh) Kelly; two sons, Richard Kelly Jr. of Freehold, NJ and Joseph Kelly of Pittsfield, MA; a daughter Kristi Abudawas of Carlsbad, CA; a sister Mary Haas of Brick; a brother Frank Kelly of Little Egg Harbor, NJ. He also leaves six grandchildren: Mary Kate, Richie, Khalid, Aliyah, Nadia, and Aydin.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-7 pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, with a service at 6 pm. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or to a charity of your choice.
