Charles George Geiger, 90, of Mantoloking passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Geiger retired in 1986 as an operations manager of the Major Appliance Division at General Electric in Englewood Cliffs having spent his entire career of nearly 40 years at GE.
He proudly served his country as a Seaman 2nd Class in the US Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1946.
Charlie studied at both Bloomsburg University and Penn State University, earning his Undergraduate degree from Penn State. He went on to obtain a Master's degree from Columbia University.
He was a member and past president of the Racquets Club of Short Hills and Curtis Point Property Owners Association and also a member of The Bay Head Yacht Club.
Born in New Brunswick and raised in Metuchen, Charlie lived mostly in Summit and Mantoloking. An avid athlete, Charlie played varsity basketball at Bloomsburg and competitive tennis for most of his life. He enjoyed golf and derived great pleasure from the comraderie of the "Glen Meadows Golf Club“. He had a passion for sailing and flying. Charlie earned his pilot’s license at the age of fifty.
We will always remember Charlie for his integrity, his intelligence, his playful wit and his enduring devotion to Kay, his beautiful wife of 66 years.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Jeanne McLaughlin and Catherine Joan Brown. Surviving is his loving wife, Kathleen F. Geiger; sons Glenn C. Geiger and his wife Nancy of West Palm Beach, FL, Timothy J. Geiger and his wife Susan of Duxbury, MA, Jay M. Geiger and his wife Mary Lou of Peabody, MA and David W. Geiger and his wife Colleen of Vienna, VA; daughters, Missy G. McCarthy and her husband Bob of Wellesley, MA and Cynthia G. Sweeney and her companion Jim Hubbard of Marshfield, MA; many beloved nieces and nephews including the Hayes, McLaughlin and Brown families; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; as well as an expectant great grandchild on the way.
Visiting will be on Wednesday from 4-8pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at Sacred Heart RC Church, Bay Head. Burial will take place later that afternoon at St. Theresa’s Cemetery, Summit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
