Obituary for Walter Frederick Windeknecht

Walter  Frederick   Windeknecht
Walter F. Windeknecht, 78, of Toms River, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

Mr. Windeknecht was born in Englewood and raised in Tenafly. He also lived in Little Ferry and in Lincroft for many years, before moving to Toms River several years ago. He served in the United States Marine Corps, before going on to a career at Atlas Supply Co., of Springfield, an automotive parts supplier, from which he retired as President. He was a member of the N.J. Seniors Golf Association, President of the N.J. Navy League Jersey Shore Council, and Past-President of the Lincroft Lions Club.

Mr. Windeknecht is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jane (nee De Carlo) Windeknecht, and his daughters and their spouses, Karen and Jeff Jones, of Ariz., Lynda and Troy Castaldo, of Brick, and Alice and Dean Schultz, of Silverton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Mikey, as well as by his sister, Alice Totten, and his sister-in-law, Helen Windeknecht. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Windeknecht.

Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service and military honors will take place at 8:30 PM. Cremation will take place privately. Please omit flowers. Donations in Mr. Windeknecht’s memory may be made to Riverview Medical Center Foundation, Booker Cancer Center, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
