Obituary for Ladislav Rizman

Ladislav  Rizman
Ladislav “Les” Rizman, 95, passed away on June 12, 2017 at Sunnyside Manor in Wall, NJ.

Mr. Rizman was born in 1921 in Sucany, Slovakia. He lived in Slovakia until Communism took over and fled to Austria. While in Austria he lived in a refugee camp for two years. On February 14, 1952, he immigrated to America with his wife and two young daughters. He lived with his family in Newark and Linden before settling in Rahway, where he achieved his dream of owning a home in America. After the passing of his wife in 2007, he moved to Spring Lake Heights to be closer to his son’s family and spent the last several years of his life residing at Sunnyside Manor.

Mr. Rizman was well-respected and educated, having earned three Master’s degrees. In Slovakia, he worked as an educator. He was also an accomplished pianist and organist who took much pride in leading children’s choirs competitively across the nation. In America, he worked as a Supervisor in the coffee manufacturing industry at Tenco in Linden, NJ. Les was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with Council #1146 in Rahway, He was also an avid pigeon fancier and racer; building and maintain an elaborate coop in his Rahway yard where he owned and trained pigeons who won many prominent races.

Mr. Rizman was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Helen (Korczmar) in 2007, and his daughter, Anna Mezaros in 1989. He was also the last survivor of seven siblings. He is survived by his children and their spouses; Mary and Jerry Glasgow of Palmyra, VA, Lad and Kathy Rizman of Wall, NJ, Sue and Kevin Nowell of Dothan, AL, and son-in law, Bill Mezaros, of Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Daniel and Lindsay Mezaros, Brian, Katie and Chris (Ens., USN) Rizman, and Rick Day.

Visitation will take place on Friday, June 16, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, followed by burial at Hazelwood Cemetery in Clark, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donation in Mr. Rizman’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or at www.stjude.org.
