Obituary for Louis N. Taylor

Louis N. Taylor of Spring Lake passed June 15, 2017. Lou was born August 25, 1929 in Bloomfield NJ to Warren and Helen (Higgins) Taylor. He attended Holy Cross on a basketball scholarship, and then served six years as an Air Force pilot. In 1957, he married his wife Diane (Cross) and settled his family in Spring Lake. Lou served as a member of the Spring Lake Council for nearly 20 years, with a final year as acting Mayor. He was a Trustee at the Spring Lake Community House, and never missed a week as usher at St. Catharine’s 7:00 am Sunday Mass. At Spring Lake Golf Club, the two-time president enjoyed his Sunday game and his regular lunch group. He loved being part of the crowd, whether it was one of his bridge groups, his Boardwalk Buddies, or the Stratton Trailblazers. He golfed until after his 87th birthday. He played basketball until his knees hurt, then ran three marathons. When he could not run, he walked the boardwalk. In the winter, he skied with the Black Crows and the Trailblazers. To his family, he was loyal and steadfast. He coached or cheered on his children and his grandchildren at all of the games, graduations, and milestone events. He accepted everyone and was proud of every accomplishment.
Lou is survived by Diane, his wife of 60 years, his brother Noel Taylor, his sister Mary Lou Connelly, his seven children, Louis, Mary, Helen, Amy, Justin, Beth and Bernadette, his 22 grandchildren (including his favorite - you know who you are), and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Louis on Tuesday, June 20, 2107 at 10:30am at St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake. Burial will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.
