The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Janice Shannon can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Janice Shannon, 74 of Manasquan passed away July 8, 2017 at her home surrounded by the love of her family.

Janice was born in Teaneck, New Jersey to her parents Roland and Lee Engel Shannon. She graduated from St. Cecilia’s High School in Englewood, NJ. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Montclair State and a Master’s Degree in Linguistics TESL - Teaching English as a Second Language from SUNY Stony Brook. She then went on to teach English in Rome, Italy and Barcelona, Spain. She returned to the United States and taught English as a Second Language and was the International Student Advisor at the Peabody Institute, Baltimore, Md. for 14 years. Upon retirement she moved to Manasquan, NJ. She first worked for the Algonquin Theater and then moved next door to work at Booktowne. She retired from her retirement job at the bookstore after 8 years. She enjoyed lunch with friends, travel, theater, mysteries, and red wine.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Martin Shannon.
Surviving are her two daughters Karen Sisti (Peter Wolanin) of Princeton, NJ and Kristin Haas (Gary Haas) of Newburgh, NY, and her three grandchildren Shannon and Tyler Haas and Madison Mazzola.
Janice’s family will receive friends from 11AM to 1PM on Saturday, July 15 at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 Twenty-Fourth St., N.W., P.O. Box 97180, Washington, DC 20090-7180, envelopes with donation forms will be provided at the funeral home during the visitation.
