Joan A. Vacchiano, 85, of Wall, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at her home.
Mrs. Vacchiano (Herbert) was born and raised in Asbury Park, and had lived in Wall since 1955. Along with her husband, Stephen E. Vacchiano, she co-founded the Colfax Companies, prominent real estate developers and builders, best known for building Colfax Plaza in Wall. She was the matriarch of her family, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Vacchiano was predeceased by her parents, Harvey and Lucy (Tuttle) Herbert, and by her beloved husband, Stephen E. Vacchiano, in 2008. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert E.S., Esq., and Alicia Vacchiano, of Wall, Lynda and Richard Burdge, of Point Pleasant, Cindy and William Groves, of Manasquan, and Ted and Linda Vacchiano, of Howell. She was the beloved grandmother of Tammy Quenet, Tiffany Knapp, and Thomas Burdge, Joseph, Robert, and Evan Vacchiano, Stephanie Murphy, Tina Peisel, and William, Jr. Groves, and Danielle, Jessica, and Paul Vacchiano, and the great-grandmother of 12. Also surviving are Mrs. Vacchiano’s sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Wesley Jost, her dear friend, Gracie Espanol, nephews and nieces, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, from 7-9 P.M. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Asbury Park, on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at 10:30 A.M., followed by burial at Monmouth Memorial Park. (No visitation at the funeral home on Thursday morning; please meet at Church.) In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Vacchiano’s memory may be made to IGA Nephropathy Foundation of America, PO Box 1322, Wall, NJ 07719.
