Hubert J. "Hugh"  Monahan
Hubert J. Monahan, 85, of Spring Lake Hts, NJ died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Saturday, August 5, 2017at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in the Bronx, NY, Hughie, as he was known, lived in Saddle Brook, NJ for over 30 years before retiring to Spring Lake Hts in 1997. Hughie spent his career in the commodities industry, working as a trading floor operations manager for EF Hutton and Dean Witter. He was a member of the New York Cotton Exchange. After retiring, he volunteered weekly at De La Salle Hall in Lincroft. He also enjoyed traveling with his loving wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren and golfing at Fairway Mews with the "Dirty Dozen." He was a communicant of St. Catharine's RC church in Spring Lake where he attended mass daily. Hughie was also an avid NY Yankee fan and a NY Giant season-ticket holder since 1956.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years Geraldine Monahan, his son Hugh Monahan, two daughters, Maureen Mazzaccaro and her husband Michael, Susan Cusat and her husband Tony, and 6 grandchildren, whom he adored: Michael, Meghan, Neil, Jack, Colleen and William.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-8 PM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd, Wall. A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, 10:30 AM at St Catharine Church, Spring Lake. Entombment will follow in St. Catharine Cemetery Mausoleum, Wall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hubert's name to De La Salle Hall, 810 Newman Springs Rd., Lincroft. NJ 07738
