Obituary for William J. Umbach

William J.  Umbach
William J. Umbach 92 of Wall, NJ died Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Care One at Wall. Mr. Umbach was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and grew up in Glendale, Queens, N.Y.; he also lived for many years in Waldwick, N.J., Parsippany, N.J., Wayne, P.A. and Jackson, N.J. before coming to Wall several years ago. William attended Richmond Hill High School, Queens, N.Y. and graduated from N.Y. U. with a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and taught as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Rutgers University. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Navigator during World War II. He was the Director of Pharmaceutical Production for Hoffman LaRoche, Nutley, NJ until his retirement in 1985. He also worked for Ford Motor Company, Lederle Labs, and E.R. Squibb and Sons. William is predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Anne D. Umbach in 2015. Surviving are his children and their spouses, William J., Jr. and Sandi Umbach of Interlaken, Marianne and Bruce Zipf of Cedar Knolls and Brielle, N.J. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelly Umbach, Michael Zipf, and Bill Umbach and his wife Katie, a great grandson, Miles.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall, N.J. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 9-10 A. M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Church, Spring Lake, at 10:30 A.M., followed by entombment at St. Catharine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Umbach’s memory may be made to St. Rose Church, 603 7th Avenue Belmar, N.J. 07719.
