The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Jewel Hansen can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Jewel A. Hansen, 88, of Brick passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 5, 2017 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Hansen was a registered nurse for over 35 years. She started her training at St. Barnabus Hospital in Livingston. She earned her RN Degree from Ocean County College in 1969. She worked many years at Point Pleasant Hospital up until 1995. She retired briefly to care for her loving husband, David Hansen, Jr. who passed away in 1999. She then returned to nursing at Shore Outpatient in Lakewood where she worked until 2016. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also loved to read, crochet and knit.
Born and raised in Lyndhurst she lived in Barnegat Light and raised her family in Manasquan before moving to Princeton Commons in Brick around 1989.
Jewel was predeceased by her husband, David Hansen, Jr.; parents, Robert and Julie Aston; sisters, Roberta Mowatt, Ruth Long, Dorothy Scott and Doris Pullman. Surviving are her children, Julie H. Renfrow of Brick, David R. Hansen of Brick, Sandy L. Hansen of Hudson, FL, Harold N. Hansen of Brick; sisters, Gloria Braun of Lakewood, Sarah Mallard of Brick, and Nora Bergman and her husband Charlie of Cinnaminson; 5 grandchildren, Leslie and her husband, Justin, David, Alan, Erik, and Ryan; and 3 great grandchildren, Ella Jewel, Karaline and Finn.
Visiting will be on Wednesday from 4-8pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A prayer service will be conducted at 7:30pm in the funeral home that evening. Final interment will be private. Donations may be made in her name to Meridian Hospice. If you wish to donate, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
