Obituary for William F Hughes III

William F. Hughes, age 82, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Concord Healthcare Center in Lakewood. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, Bill attended school there before moving to Brick in 1952.

Bill served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 where he was a member of the CO I 39th Infantry Regt. In Germany.

Mr. Hughes retired from New Jersey Natural Gas after 40 years of service with the company as a Customer Service Representative in 1997. He was a member of the gas lite club and the lamp lite club as well as I-B-E-W 1820.

Bill served as a past commander of the American Legion post 348 in Brick and was part of the American Legion Baseball Committee and was a member of the 40/8. He was also a former member of the Brick Elks and the Point Pleasant Moose.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Barbara; his three daughters, Cheryl Klotz and her husband Mark of South Carolina, Bonnie LeCocq and her husband Scott of Colorado and Eve Schacht and her husband Bill of Brick; his sister Helen Morris and her husband Dave of Bayville; his granddaughters Shannon, Angie and Lacey; and his great-granddaughter Jaida; his nephew, William Morris; and his nieces Sherri Whittker and Michelle Morris.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. The interment will take place at the William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery at a Date to Be Announced.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
