Obituary for Edward Aloysius Maypother Jr.

Edward Aloysius Maypother Jr., 90, passed away on Aug. 30, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
Born in Jersey City, Edward attended St. Aloysius Grammar and Lincoln High schools. A star football player at Lincoln, he met his sweetheart, a beautiful Lincoln cheerleader, Elizabeth (Bette) Koshuta,that led to a loving 60-year marriage. They moved to Belmar in 1956 where they enjoyed buying property in need of repair and fixing and selling them.
Edward was a proud member of the Hook and Ladder Fire Company in his new town for 25 years. He was also a Parishioner of St. Rose Roman Catholic Church, Belmar where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council.
Edward was a proud US Marine Corps veteran who was stationed at Quantico,Va. and The Presidio in San Francisco, Calif. during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge in 1947.
He worked for 41 years at the Ford Motor Company as a senior safety and security executive engineer. At the Ford plant in Edison, Edward developed three close friends -- Tony, Davey and Bobby -- who kept in touch with him even after he retired 34 years ago. Oh, if those walls in Edison could talk!
Upon retiring from Ford, Edward and Bette moved to Deerfield Beach, Fla. They traveled extensively around the world before moving back to New Jersey to be close to family and friends.
Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years Elizabeth (Bette) Koshuta Maypother on February 29, 2008 his parents Edward (Damps) A. and Alice Wolfe Maypother, his sisters Alyce Tierney and Joan McArdle
Surviving his legacy are his heartbroken children who loved him dearly and deeply. They are Karen Maypother Landers ("his favorite daughter") and husband Peter A Landers of Wall Township with whom he lived for 11 years; Edward A Maypother III and wife Maureen Mullarkey Maypother of Wall Township; and Kevin E Maypother of Spring Lake.
Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to him, Peter E Landers, Kristofer A Landers and Demi O'Connor, Shane H Maypother, Riley E Maypother, Brody P Maypother, Logan T Maypother and Ilene Stetsko Astemborski, and his niece Patricia Tierney Torres and husband Augie. Last, but not least, are his two favorite Labs and companions, who will miss their cookie times with "Poppy", Finn and Reef.

Visitation will be today from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:00am at the Church of St. Rose, 603 7th Ave., Belmar, NJ 07719.
Private committal will follow in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
