Philip F. Sharkey, 62, of Brick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Philip was born and raised in Bayonne and has resided at the Jersey Shore for many years.

Mr. Sharkey worked for many years at the Hess Oil Refinery in Perth Amboy before retiring in 2011. As a young man, Mr. Sharkey was an accomplished athlete. He played basketball for Jersey City State College in Jersey City and enjoyed playing softball in many different leagues on the Jersey Shore. As a sports fan, he loved watching the New York Giants and the New York Mets.

Mr. Sharkey was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Doris Sharkey; and by his brother, Neil Sharkey. Surviving are his brother, Joseph Sharkey and his wife, Susan of Brick; nephews, Shawn Sharkey and his wife, Kristy of Yuma, AZ and Joseph Sharkey of Brick; nieces, Christina Sharkey and her husband, Brian Brown of Highland Park and Lauren Rose and her husband, Pat of Howell. He also leaves a great nephew, Jack Rose.

A memorial Mass will be offered in the near future at St. Dominic’s RC Church in Brick. Donations may be made in his name to the St. Jude’s Children Research Foundation.
