Obituary for Theodore J. "Ted" Mika

Theodore J. Mika, 87, of Brick, New Jersey passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, NJ. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 and was also a member and boat safety instructor for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary- Jersey Shore- Flotilla 85 Division 8.
Born and raised in Perth Amboy, Ted graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1947 followed by an attendance to the Portsmouth Priory School, Rhode Island. He was associated with the Mika Studio and Camera Shop, Inc., located in Perth Amboy and Brick, NJ. He also worked as a salesman for Macy’s Department Store in both Eatontown and Toms River before retiring in 1993.
Ted was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Brick and could be found tending to his beautiful garden on a daily basis.
Mr. Mika was predeceased by his parents, Nicodem and Elizabeth (Stolarik) Mika and by his brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert Mika, Sr. and his wife Maryanne.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Sonya (Zuzov) Mika; son, Theodore Kyle Mika and his wife Tara K. of Brick; brother Ralph Mika and his wife, Bertha of New Cumberland, PA; sister, Claire Nagy and her husband, Joseph of Fanwood; uncle, Emile Mika and his wife, Eleanor of San Antonio, TX; niece Mimi Merola and her husband; nephew Gilbert, Jr., Morganville; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 8:30-9:30AM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A mass will be offered Thursday, 10AM at St. Dominic’s RC Church, Brick. Entombment will follow at St. Mary of the Lake RC Cemetery & Mausoleum, Lakewood.
