Obituary for Jim Roper

Jim Roper, at the age of 64, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017 surrounded by family. Jim is survived by his wife Eileen (Flanagan), daughter Jenna and son Michael, as well as his sisters Donna (John Hart) and Jane (Chuck Moni) and brother Charlie, along with many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends who he considered family. Jim was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School where he was best friends with the Dean of Discipline, and graduated from St. Leo's University in Florida, or as he and all his friends knew it, "Lucky Leo's". Jim was beloved by colleagues throughout his career, where he held leadership positions from organizations including Giants Stadium and the Big Apple Circus. Jim lived out loud and made life more fun. Affectionately referred to as Jim, Jimmy, Daddy, Bub, or Uncle Jimmy, he brought energy and laughter everywhere he went, not only with his clever one-liners and endless stories, but also with an unfaltering love for his family and friends. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. A visitation will be held at O'Brien Funeral Home in Wall Township on Thursday, October 12th from 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Long Branch on Saturday, October 14th, 2017, at 10:00 am. A celebration of his life will be held afterwards where funny stories, jokes, and friendly digs on the Jets are encouraged and welcomed. If so desired, donations may be made to Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans, LA, an organization close to Jim's heart, committed to giving second chances to wild and passionate souls who deserve them.
