Obituary for William J. Pentony

William J. Pentony, 85, of Point Pleasant made his final farewell to a joyful life on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, on August 2, 1932, he attended Holy Spirit High School and then joined the U.S. Navy aviation branch during the Korean War. After his service, Bill graduated summa cum laude from Glassboro State College in 1959.

Bill served as a school administrator for many years, including 6 years in Levittown, NJ, 4 years in Germany, and 23 years in Sea Girt, NJ. He finished his career there as Superintendent overseeing school construction, staffing, curricular development, and overall leadership responsibilities. He truly enjoyed being around children throughout his career. His many fruitful years in NJ and in Europe gave fulfillment to his lifelong "raison d'etre" -- the care, growth, and development of precious young lives.

Bill's glory was living a life of love with Kay, his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years. Their lives were made complete when they were blessed with the birth of their son, Michael. Granddaughter Isabel favored Nana and Pop-Pop with bonus years of love with their only grandchild.

Retirement allowed many years of tennis, spending fun times with friends, continued learning through a lifetime interest in books, and idyllic travel with Kay to most countries in Europe.

He was predeceased by his wife, Kay. Surviving are his son, Michael, daughter-in-law Jennifer Wieselquist, and granddaughter Isabel. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday 10am at St. Peter’s RC Church in Point Pleasant Beach. Burial will be held privately on Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Northfield NJ. Donations may be made in his name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Peter’s Church 406 Forman Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742.
