Obituary for Virginia D. Trumpbour (Droesch)

Print
Virginia D. Trumpbour, mother of twelve children and a devoted community volunteer, died on October 31, 2017 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Born in 1931 in Jamaica Estates, Queens and raised in nearby Hollis Hills, Jinny was a graduate of the Mary Louis Academy, St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, and the Tobé-Coburn School for fashion design in Manhattan.
Jinny was married in 1955 to sales engineer and business executive Robert C. Trumpbour, who died in 2012. After moves to Maryland, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio, Trumpbour settled at the Jersey Shore in the early-1960s. She became a tireless community volunteer on behalf of several organizations: a pack and den leader of the Cub Scouts, a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Catharine Church of Spring Lake and Saint Rose Church of Belmar, a Class Parent at Saint Catharine School, and a regular supporter of local Little League baseball. Her work for the Garden Club of Spring Lake featured gardens at Holy Trinity Church that received award-winning recognition. In her later years, she enjoyed trips to Broadway shows, traveled to many European countries, continued to volunteer in local schools, and organized day trips to Atlantic City for seniors. She served on the Board of Directors of Holy Trinity Church and as President of Fredward, Inc., a family company founded in 1946 by her husband and brother-in-law. Despite her busy life, Jinny was an ongoing source of assistance for elderly family, friends and neighbors.
Prior to her marriage and the birth of her twelve children, Jinny enjoyed a range of work experiences. As a teenager, she was an equestrian instructor at Camp Hilltop in the Catskills of upstate New York. A skilled rifle shooter, she taught marksmanship and also provided fencing instruction to campers. Among the campers under her direct care were the two older sisters of the current President of the United States. She later worked for the D.C.-based department store Woodward & Lothrop. During the 1950s, she took a post with Government Employees Insurance Company, today better known as GEICO.
Jinny was predeceased by her father Louis and mother Dorothy Droesch, sisters Dorothea Szabo, Jacqueline Kane, and Lucille Viola.
She is survived by her sister Phyllis Grady of Connecticut and her brother Louis Droesch of Colorado, her twelve children - Teresa, Robert, John, Virginia, Barbara, Thomas, William, James, Elizabeth, Jean, Louis, and Mark, and many grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Route 35 at New Bedford Rd, Wall, NJ. Her Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Rose Church, 603 7th Ave., Belmar on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 11:00am followed by entombment in St. Catharine Mausoleum, Sea Girt.
