Obituary for Walter R. Smith

Walter R. Smith, 86, of Spring Lake Heights passed away on November 1, 2017 at Sunnyside Manor in Wall Township.
Born in North Bergen, NJ, Walter was a Chemical Engineer, graduating class of 1952 from NJIT, of which he was Class President.
Walter was also a writer, having written many technical books. He also traveled the world over. He had a passion for reading and loved swimming at the Atlantic Club, Wall Township for many years.
Walter was predeceased by his son Thomas Smith. Surviving is his loving wife of 36 years, Marie Ieraci Smith, his children Charles of Eatontown, Walter Jr. of Eatontown, Richard and wife Andrea N. of Tinton Falls, Margaret “Peggy” Macdonald and husband Kevin of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Anne Marie Lodato and husband Frank of Tinton Falls, his grandchildren Miles and Wesley Macdonald, Danielle and Megan Lodato, and Andrew and Catelyn Smith.
The world has lost a wonderful and caring person who never put himself first but took care of people in need always.

The Smith family would like to extend a warm and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sunnyside Manor, Wall for their special care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 9:00am to 10:00am at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at St. Margaret’s RC Church, Corner of 3rd and Ludlow Aves., Spring Lake. Entombment in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
In lieu of flowers the Smith family specifically requests donations be made to St. Frances Cabrini Shrine, 701 Fort Washington Ave., New York, New York, 10040. Envelopes to be provided at the funeral home on Monday.
