Obituary for Richard J. Gerard Sr.

Richard J.  Gerard Sr.
Richard J. Gerard, Sr., 80, of Point Pleasant passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Mr. Gerard was a clerk for the United States Post Office in Bloomfield before retiring 20 years ago. He also was a successful salesman at Big A Auto Parts in Clifton for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962.
Born and raised in Newark he lived in Bloomfield before moving to Point Pleasant 25 years ago.
He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Anna Gerard; his former wife, Elvira Gerard in 2002; and by his four brothers and a sister.
Surviving are his loving wife of 13 years, Anna T. (Bobikova) Gerard; a son, Richard Gerard, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia of Wayne; daughters, Cynthia Ann Thompson and her husband, Gregg of Hillsborough, and Cheryl Ann Strother and her husband, Bill of Brick; a brother, Robert Gerard; and 6 grandchildren, Erica, Cassandra, Julia, Christopher, Olivia and Adrianna. Visiting will be on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 10am -10:30am at Sacred Heart RC Church, 751 Main Avenue, Bay Head. A Mass will be offered at 10:30am in the church. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine’s Cemetery 1100 West Chicago Blvd., Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation.
