James J.  Walsh Sr.
James J. Walsh, Sr., 89, of Brick, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
Mr. Walsh was born in Manhattan, raised in Brooklyn, and was a resident of Queens for most of his life before coming to Brick two years ago. He had also resided in Delray Beach, Florida for several years while in retirement. After serving in the Navy during WW II, he embarked on a distinguished career in the New York Police Department, retiring as Detective First Grade after 30 years of service. He was a member of the NYPD Emerald Society.
Mr. Walsh was predeceased by his parents, James and Susan (nee McCaffrey) Walsh, his sister, Catherine Barton, and his brother, John Walsh. He was also predeceased by two wives, Gloria (nee Downing) in 1985, and Carolyn (nee Tamney) in 2013. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James, Jr. and Lisa Walsh, of Brick, and by other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Sunday, November 26, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic’s Church, Brick, on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 10 A.M., followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Queens.
