Philip William Farhat of Sea Brook Village, Tinton Falls, age 97, died December 16, 2017.
Born in Bayonne, NJ, Mr. Farhat graduated from Bayonne High School and was active in St. Vincent's Church. Serving in the U.S. Marine Corps for 26 years in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Divisions; and on the U.S.S. Intrepid, he was a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Having served as a drill instructor and in the artillery, he retired as a First Sergeant.
Mr. Farhat was a long-time member of the Manasquan Elks and Fleet Reserve Association. He enjoyed good food, outdoor activities, and the Yankees. In his military service, he traveled the world extensively and continued travelling after retirement.
Mr. Farhat and his wife moved to Wall Township in the 1970's. Following her death, Mr. Farhat enjoyed living the last 14 years at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls.
He was predeceased by his parents, May and Joseph Farhat; six brothers and sisters; six brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; one niece; and his beloved wife, Ann Salerno Farhat. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Louise Pataranick and Phyllis Salerno; 24 nieces and nephews; 30 great-nieces and -nephews; 13 great-great-nieces and -nephews; and his significant other of five years, Bette Sherlis.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 9:30am to 10:30am at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ, 07719 followed by Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00am at Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church, 3455 West Bangs Ave., Neptune, NJ 07753. Interment will follow in St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall.
