Ellen Boyle, 52, died peacefully on January 21, 2018 at home surrounded by her adoring family.

Born on October 3, 1965, Ellen lived in Bloomfield, NJ before moving to Sea Girt in 1978. She attended special education classes in schools in Nutley, Wall Township, Ocean Township, and then Freehold Township High School, from which she graduated in 1987. Most recently, she attended the Children’s Center of Monmouth County.

Ellen was an avid sports fan, having a special love for the NY Yankees, Giants, and Jets. She participated in many activities with organizations such as Friends of Special Athletes, including swimming, basketball, bowling, track and field, and dance events. Ellen was a Special Olympian for more than 30 years and was especially proud of the countless gold, silver and bronze medals she won swimming the butter-fly and freestyle strokes.

She was a communicant and altar server at St. Mark’s Church in Sea Girt and a member of the Holy Innocents Society.

Ellen loved to travel and eagerly anticipated each adventure. Some of her favorite destinations were Bermuda, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. She was a big fan of Broadway musicals and television soap operas. One of the best days of her life was meeting Eric Martsolf, one of the stars of Days of Our Lives.

Ellen is predeceased by her loving and devoted parents, Eleanor C. and John M. Boyle. She is survived by her sister Mary and brother-in-law George Fleck of Sea-brook Island, SC, her sister Jane Boyle of Sea Girt, NJ with whom she lived, her brother John T. “Sean” and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Boyle of Manasquan, NJ, her nephew and niece Owen and Kate Boyle, her devoted caregiver Thelma Ong and her many friends. Ellen’s enthusiasm, her sense of humor, her courage, her warm hugs and her loving heart will be greatly missed by all.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and on Friday from 8:30am – 9:00am at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 9:30am at St. Mark’s RC Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, NJ 08750.
Interment will be in the Boyle family plot in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, the Boyle family would appreciate donations to the ARC of New Jersey, 985 Livingston Avenue, North Brunswick, NJ 08902, designated specifically for the Medical Mainstreaming Program that supports those living with Down Syndrome and Alzheimer’s Disease.
