Marguerite “Rita” Abood, 91, of Wall, New Jersey, died peacefully at Preferred Care at Wall on January 29, 2018. Born in Union, New Jersey, Rita graduated from Benedictine Academy in 1945, and began her career at Norcross Greeting Card Company in New York City. Rita moved to her beloved Allenhurst, New Jersey with her parents in 1958. Rita began commuting to New York City from Allenhurst by train, where she met the love of her life, and fellow commuter, Norman Abood. After 10 years of friendship and playing bridge on the train, Rita and Norman got married in 1975. Together, they spent their later years enjoying summers at the Allenhurst Beach Club, and spending time with friends and family. Rita was an active member of the Allenhurst Garden Club. She also shared her creative abilities by knitting and needlepointing countless gifts for each child born into her family.
She is predeceased by her husband, Norman in 2010 and her parents, Christian and Estelle Fautz. She is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Sally Lame, of Belmar and Elaine Stornelli, of Wall, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10am at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, Deal, NJ. Family will welcome visitors in church prior to mass from 9:00am- 10am. Interment to follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
