Antonia "Nina"  Distefano (Milazzo)
Antonia “Nina” Distefano, 94, of Brick, NJ, formerly of 39 Arthur Place in Red Bank, NJ, passed away on Monday, January 29th at Willow Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Brick, surrounded by her family.
She was born February 18, 1923, in South Amboy, NJ. In 1930, the family returned to Paterno, Sicily. There, she learned the delicate art of embroidery and taught the art to young girls in the community.
She was married on June 23, 1954 to her beloved Alfio Distefano at the Church of Santa Barbara in Paterno, where she served as the secretary of The Catholic Daughters, and was a member of Azione Cattolica Italiana. In December of that year, she and her husband came to the United States and settled in Red Bank, NJ, where they raised their family. They were members of St. James Parish. There she, again, served as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America at the Court of St. James. In 2006, she and her husband moved to Brick, NJ, resided in Greenbriar II, and became members of St. Dominic’s Parish, where they were active in the Senior Social Club.
Daughter of the late Nunzio and Maria Milazzo, she was also predeceased by her sister, Josephine Fazio in 2014. She is survived by her husband, Alfio; her brother Dr. Gioachinno Milazzo of Paterno, Sicily; her son, Raymond and his wife, Rosemary of Manasquan, NJ; her son, Nunzio and his wife, Debra of Manasquan, NJ; grandchildren, Christopher of Rahway, NJ and Danielle of Brooklyn, NY; her son, Paul of East Windsor, NJ; her niece, Dr. Mariella Milazzo Laudani of Paterno, Sicily and her nephew, Dr. Giannunzio Milazzo of Milan, Italy.
She was a wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to family and friends. She will be sorely missed and in our hearts forever.
Visiting will be on Thursday from 4-8pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday 10am at St. Dominic’s RC Church, Brick. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph’s RC Cemetery, Toms River.
