Margaret Mary Cooney, age 92, of Sea Girt, NJ died Friday, February 2, 2018 at Brandywine at Wall, surrounded by her children and extended family. Born in West Orange, Margie lived in Chatham, NJ and Boca Raton, FL for 30 years and was a summer resident of Sea Girt for 57 years. She was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. Margie was a long-time member of the Spring Lake Golf Club and a member and community volunteer with St. Joan of Arc Church Boca Raton, FL.

She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Mary McGuirk, her loving husband John David Cooney Sr. and her siblings, George, Douglas, Robert and William McGuirk and Alice Nucciarone. A devoted and cherished mother, Margie is survived by her children, John D. Cooney Jr. (Kathleen) of Basking Ridge, NJ, Kevin F. Cooney (Anne) of Convent Station, NJ, Thomas A. Cooney (Simone) of Monmouth Beach, NJ, Kathleen Cooney Clarke (John) of New York, NY, Margaret Begley (Robin) of Dayton, OH. She also leaves 17 grandchildren who delighted in her care: Cristin, Meghan, John (Lander), Brendan, Kristy, Colleen, Kate, Brian (Brittney), Colleen (Reid), Laura, Lauren (Mat), Kathleen, Jack, Thomas, Matthew, Patrick and Maggie; and 8 great grandchildren, James, Fiona, Juniper, Nolan, August, Wesley, Margo and Silas.

Visiting will be Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1-5 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Funeral Mass will be Monday, 9:30 AM at St. Mark’s Church, 215 Crescent Pkwy., Sea Girt, committal will follow in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's New Jersey.
