Obituary for James J. Spring

James J.  Spring
James Joseph Spring, 92, of Wall Township and formerly of Spring Lake NJ, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Born in Paterson, James went on to faithfully serve in the US Merchant Marines during World War II. Upon his return, he married his beloved Florence (nee Dapolito). They lived in Clifton with their two children, James Jr. and Kathleen, before moving to Spring Lake in 1960. James had a long and prosperous career as a seaman for Exxon, rising to the rank of 2nd mate.
James was a proud veteran and member of the Dennis a. Roland Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans, VFW and Elks. He was a member of the Positive Earth Drivers Club. He was known for his integrity and wit and will be missed by many.
James was predeceased by his wife Florence, son James Jr., daughter Kathleen Strother, sister Marge Fierro, and brother Frank. He is survived by his many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall NJ on Monday, February 19th from 2-6 pm. A funeral procession will leave from the funeral home Tuesday at 9:30 AM for a chapel service that starts at 10:30 AM in the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ name may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
