James T. Burgess Sr., age 73, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home in Berkeley Township. Born in Paterson, NJ, James was raised in Fair Lawn, lived in Howell for 23 years where he served on the township planning board, president of the local Little League and coached recreational basketball in Lakewood. He worked at Verizon for 36 years before retiring in 2002 and moving to Berkeley Township.

Mr. Burgess served in the United States Army from May 1963 to May 1969.

James was a communicant of St. Maximilian’s Kolbe Church in Toms River.

Surviving are his loving wife, Luanne, of 47 years; his children, Anne Voss and her husband Tim, James Burgess Jr. and his wife Nadine, Bonnie Vella and her husband Carl, Brian Burgess and his wife Lisa, Peter Burgess and his wife Nicole and Thomas Burgess; his sisters, Elizabeth Bellomo and her husband John and Katherine Londergan and husband Dennis and his 12 grandchildren.

Viewing will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 27th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Toms River followed by the interment at the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
