Robert Thomas New 88, of Brick, NJ died Friday, March 16, 2018 at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Chicago, IL, Robert lived in Bergen County before moving to Howell and most recently Brick. Robert was a parishioner of St. William the Abbot Church, Howell and St. Dominic’s Church, Brick. He was a devout Catholic and had a devotion to the Rosary. Robert worked for Anheuser Busch in Newark, NJ as a salesman until his retirement in 1992. He was known as the “Bud Man” to all his family and friends. Robert worked with various outreach programs and nursing homes.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife Ellamae New in 1998, 2 daughters; Patricia Buckley in 2005 and Maryann New in 2008. Surviving are his children; Paul New and his wife Luann of Somerset, NJ, Irene Rego and her husband Louis of Perth Amboy, NJ, Jane Harris and her husband James of Monroe Twp., NJ, Cynthia New of Wall, and Suzanne Taranto and her husband John of Oxford, NJ. He leaves a sister-in-law Marion Piehler, 11 grandchildren; Travis and Allison New, Robert and Philip Rego, Kevin, Merrion and Wesley Buckley, Jacob Harris, Charlotte New, Cameron and Zachary Taranto.
Visiting will be on Sunday from 1-5 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. Funeral Mass will be Monday, 9AM at St. Dominic’s Church, Brick, followed by burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Vincent de Paul c/o St. Matthias Church, 168 JFK Blvd., Somerset, NJ 08873.
