Obituary for Marie A. Clarke

Marie A.  Clarke
Marie Ann Clarke, 84, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2018, in Naples, Florida, surrounded by her loving daughters. Born in New York City, Marie was raised in Flushing, Queens by her dear parents, Joseph and Bertha Dourigan.
Marie graduated from The Mary Louis Academy and St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing where she made, and kept, many cherished friendships. It was at a St. Vincent’s dance that Marie met Bill Clarke and they were married following her graduation. They started their life together in Queens where they raised four young daughters.
In 1969 they moved to Ringwood, N.J. Shortly after, Marie began her career as a Registered Nurse at Preakness Hospital in Paterson where she demonstrated patience and compassion with the elderly population she served for over twenty-five years.
Upon retirement, Marie and Bill moved to Fairway Mews in Spring Lake Heights where Marie learned to play golf and where she shared many laughs with her friends in the “Nine Holers”. She also loved shopping with “her girls”, reading and spending time with her friends and family. Marie will be remembered for her sincerity and friendliness. She loved people, having the unusual ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. She had a great sense of humor, exhibited extraordinary, nonjudgmental generosity and always, a positive spirit.
Marie was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Bertha Dourigan, sister-in-law, Jacqueline Dourigan and her husband of fifty-one years, William J. Clarke. She is survived by her four daughters, Marie Fastiggi and her husband Fred, Patricia Clarke and John Mulligan, Jeanette Kluckowski and her husband Ed, and Ellen Clarke.
Marie was blessed with ten grandchildren, their spouses and two great grandchildren: Meghan Schimmel; Jack and Krista Mulligan; Glynnis and Jay DeCristofaro; Kevin Mulligan; Jillian McManus; Joseph Kluckowski; Kyle McManus; Christopher Fastiggi; James Kluckowski; Jake McManus, and: great grandchildren Abigail Schimmel and Declan Mulligan.
Marie is also survived by her older brother Joseph Dourigan, his wife Marian, her brother-in-law Martin Clarke, and many nieces and nephews. Marie’s relationship with her brother Joe was very special with a mutual admiration that lasted a lifetime.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, from 4-8 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall Township, New Jersey. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Catharine Church in Spring Lake, on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 10:30 AM. She is to be entombed at Saint Catharine Mausoleum.
