Obituary for Michael G. Johnston Jr.
Michael G. Johnston Jr., 40 of Brick passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 at his father’s home in Brick, which he had been renovating. Born in Point Pleasant, Michael had resided in Manasquan for many years before moving to Brick in 2011. He had graduated from Wall High School and was employed as a State Fire Marshall. He was a devout Lutheran and a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan where he was married in 2010.
Michael had been a member of the Brielle Fire Department since 1997 and had served as the Chief from 2009-2011. He was a member of Monmouth County Fire Chiefs Association and was presently serving as their Secretary.
Michael was a Licensed US Coast Guard Captain and was an avid fisherman. He loved the ocean and if he wasn’t out on the water he could be found on the beach.
Michael was predeceased by loving father and best friend Michael G. Johnston Sr. in July 2016 and his stepmom Janice who raised him for over 20 years. He is survived by his devoted wife Kristy Zacco Johnston; his children, Alexa Johnston and Ryan Zacco; his mother Kathleen DiNapoli of Brick; his stepsisters Tara Valles & husband Brock of Toms River, and Cori Lango & her wife Kristin Tomlinson of New Hope, PA, and a million lifelong friends from the Shore area.
Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm followed by a Funeral Service on Saturday at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Entombment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.
