Obituary for Mary C Lynch

Mary C Lynch
Mary Catherine Lynch, 87, of Wall, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2018, at her home.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Margaret (Donlin) Lynch and her sisters Helen Flood and Margaret (Peggy) Lynch. She is survived by her brother Peter Lynch of Wall, 8 nieces and nephews, James Flood, Mary Ellen Butterly, Laurie Sheldon, Peter Flood, Thomas Flood, Allison Kellish, David Flood, Briana Lynch, 16 grand nieces and nephews, and her cherished god daughter Patricia Reina.

Mary was born and raised in East Orange, and moved to Wall with her sister Margaret (Peggy) in 1989. She greatly enjoyed spending her retirement “down the shore” and was blessed with wonderful neighbors and many new friends at the Pride of Wall.

A graduate of Holy Name Grammar School in East Orange, Mary was awarded a scholarship to Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Wall. She was a proud member of the Class of ’49 where she made many friends who were truly lifelong.

Mary began her career as a comptometer operator for Graybar Electric Co. in Newark ultimately retiring as a billing supervisor. Not ready for permanent retirement, Mary took a position in the billing department of Hartz Mountain in Harrison where she worked for several years before her second retirement.

Mary enjoyed reading, traveling with her sister Peggy, including several trips to Ireland and spending time with friends new and old. Her greatest joy, however, was her family and friends. She hosted an annual St. Patrick’s Day party for over 25 years and never missed a family event, from christenings to funerals. With an amazing, undiminished memory, Mary was the reliable source for family information on who did what, when and where. Generous beyond words, she will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at St. Catherine’s RC Church in Spring Lake, followed by burial at Hazelwood Cemetery in Rahway. Donations in her memory may be made to St. John’s Soup Kitchen, PO Box 200417, 22 Mulberry St., Newark, NJ 07102
