James T. Carlin Jr., 62, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was raised in Ewing, NJ and resided in Sleepy Hollow, NY and vacationed in Spring Lake, NJ. He attended Rutgers University and graduated with a B.S. in Biology; and attained M.S., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Food Science from Rutgers. He began his career as an Analytical Flavor Chemist with PepsiCo, Inc., then worked for Thomas J. Lipton, Inc. where he met his wife Camille. He served as Vice President of Global Research and Development, The Seagram Spirits and Wine Group at Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc.; then served as Vice President of Brand Services, North America Technical Operations at Diageo, PLC; and ended his career as Vice President of Research, Quality and Innovation of ConAgra Food Ingredients at ConAgra Foods Inc. Jim previously served as a member of the Board of Governors, Flavor and Extract Manufacturers’ Association of the United States. He was an avid golfer, wine connoisseur and beach enthusiast. He was a member of Hopewell Valley Golf Club, Hopewell, NJ; Westchester Country Club, Rye, NY; and Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club, Spring Lake, NJ.
Son of the late James T. Carlin, he is survived by his wife, Camille T. Carlin; two daughters, Brenna Carolan Carlin and Morrin Elizabeth Carlin; his mother, Joan Brady Carlin; his two sisters, Mary Carlin Komjathy and Anne Carlin Spedding and her husband Tim.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, NJ 07719. A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Burial will follow at St. Anne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to “Leukemia Fighters/New York-Presbyterian Hospital”, c/o Dr. Gail J. Roboz, 520 East 70th Street, Box 403, New York, NY 10021.
