Carole Jean Ryan, 71, of Apex, N.C., and formerly of Spring Lake Heights, N.J., passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Carole was born on July 23, 1946 in Erie, Pa. She was a graduate of St. Benedict Academy for Girls, and attended The American Institute of Banking and Gannon College, all in Erie, Pa. On October 1, 1966, she married Joseph P. Ryan, Jr. at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Erie, Pa. She then worked as an Intelligence Analyst for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, retiring after 20 years of service. She also served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother when her children were growing up, was a member of the Funtastic Chicks, of Apex, N.C., and was a parishioner at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, in Apex, N.C. and a former parishioner at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Above all, she was a loving, caring woman who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to smile and make others smile, especially with her joke of the day.
Carole was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth (Turos) Kennedy. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph P. Ryan, Jr., her daughter, Bridget Baucom, of Apex, N.C., and her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph P. Ryan III, and Dawn White Ryan, of Spring Lake Heights. She was the adored grandmother of Tiernan Adaire Baucom, Emma Elizabeth Ryan and Abigail Ann Ryan. Also surviving are Carole’s brother, Bruce Kennedy, of Naples, Fl., her brother-in-law, Thomas Ryan, and her nephew, Sean Ryan, both of Wall, N.J. Carole will be greatly missed by her loving beagle, Tangie.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Friday, May 18, 2018, from 4-7 PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, on Saturday, March 19, 2018, at 10:30 AM, followed by burial at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607-6372, or via www.transitionslifecare.org. The Ryan Family is grateful for the care given to Carole by the Duke ALS Clinic, Transitions Home Health, Transitions Hospice Care, as well as by her loving family and friends.
