Obituary for Joseph A Cromie Jr.

Joseph A. Cromie Jr., age 84, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018. Born in Guttenberg, NJ on December 2, 1933, he resided there until July 1963. He married the love of his life Maryann Hutnik in February 1958 and moved to Point Pleasant, NJ in 1963.

He was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in West New York, NJ where he played varsity football for four years as well as basketball and baseball. He was selected to the Hudson County All County Football Squad and voted Honorable mention to the All Catholic State Football Team. He later was inducted into the St. Joseph’s High School Hall of Fame for Athletic Achievements.

Joseph was also a graduate of St. Peter’s University in 1963 where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Mr. Cromie proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 8867 in Brick.

He was employed by the Ford Motor Company, International Division for 38 years before retiring in 1988. During his tenure with Ford he served in various management capacities including three years at the United Nations in New York City as a Diplomatic Representative.

He celebrated 60 years of marriage with his loving wife Maryann. They both enjoyed traveling over the years, visiting many European and South American Countries. Mr. Cromie enjoyed playing golf with close friends and was a member of the Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood, NJ for more than 20 years. Most of all he took great pleasure along with his wife Maryann in following the school activities of his grandchildren in Point Pleasant Schools where they participated in various athletic and school functions.

Surviving are his beloved wife Maryann; his four daughters, Renee Cuthbert and her husband Allan, Sharon Cromie, Maureen Cromie and Colleen Costigan and her husband Michael; his sisters, Marie Schmidt and Christine Variette; his five grandchildren, Kristen LeRoux and her husband S.W., Brittany and Brian Cuthbert and Colin and Connor Costigan.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday May 18th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martha’s RC Church, Point Pleasant followed by the entombment at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.
