Obituary for Marie O'Beirne (Cecere)

Marie Ann O’Beirne 97 of Lakewood, NJ died Friday, June 8, 2018 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Marie was a graduate of Central High School in 1937. She worked at Prudential in Newark right out of High School. She met the love of her life John J. O’Beirne and they were married in 1943 then moved to Maplewood in 1946 where they resided until 1987 when they moved to Ocean Township. She worked at the Maplewood Memorial Library as a library assistant until her retirement. Marie was a lifelong catholic. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Marie was predeceased by her loving husband John J. O’Beirne and an infant son. Surviving are her son; John P. O’Beirne and his wife Mary of Wall, a daughter Kathleen Slotman and her husband Gus of Moorestown, NJ, a sister Lois Santillo of Toms River, NJ, 7 grandchildren; Justin, John and his wife Jessica, Katherine Beining and her husband William, Matthew and his wife Colleen Slotman, Sean, Patrick and Ronan O’Beirne. She also leaves 7 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting will be Monday, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, 9:30AM at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. Burial will be Monday, June 18, 2018, 10 am at the Brig. Gen William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to JDRF, 740 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ 07702 or Benedictine Academy, 840 N. Broad St. Elizabeth, NJ 07208.
