Joan Cray (nee Ross), 86, formerly of Toms River passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Willow Springs in Brick. Ms. Cray worked in banking for her entire career. She started out as a bank teller immediately graduating from St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City. She worked for Marine Midland Bank in New York City and over the years she rose through the corporate structure of the bank. At the time of her retirement, she had served as Branch Manager, Account Manager, and Operations Manager at various Marine Midland branches throughout Midtown Manhattan and the Financial District. In 1973, she was awarded certificate of meritorious service for a role in bringing a member of a burglary ring to justice. Born in Jersey City, she was a lifelong resident of North and South Jersey before retiring to Toms River. Ms. Cray always described herself as a Jersey Girl.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Helen Ross; sister, Lois Hemp and brother-in-law, George Hemp. Surviving are her nieces, cousins and dear friends.
A memorial luncheon celebrating Joan life will take place at a later date. Funeral services were handled under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick.
