The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of William Caldwell can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

William Smith "Bill"  Caldwell
William Smith Caldwell, 93, of Lakewood passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 25, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Caldwell emigrated from Cleland, Scotland in 1959 to Newark, NJ. He lived in Montclair, Upper Montclair and Cedar Grove before moving to Lakewood in 1995. Mr. Caldwell proudly served in the British Royal Navy during WWII from 1942-1946. After moving to the United States he founded Caldwell Auto Body in Montclair which he ran for over 30 years and began raising his family. He was an avid golfer and a member of Four Seasons Golf Club and the Gleneagles Golf Club.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Mitchell Caldwell; and by all of his 11 siblings. Surviving are his daughters, Elaine Caldwell-Krumins and her husband, Dr. Martin Krumins of New York City and Sandra Caldwell-Walsh of Lakewood; 2 grandchildren, Amanda Rae Walsh and Brandon Lee Walsh; as well as a large extended family and a host of relatives overseas in Europe.
A visitation will be on Saturday from 10am-1pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A prayer service will be conducted at 1pm. Final interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation.
