Obituary for William E. "Bill" Higgins
William E. Higgins, 79, formerly of Manasquan, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.
Bill was born in Newark and raised in Irvington. He moved to Manasquan in 1970 and in recent years lived in Brick. He was a greenskeeper at Spring Meadow Golf Course for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge #2534, and an usher at St. Denis Church for many years. He enjoyed spending time at the Manasquan Inlet and at the Spring Lake Beach South Pavillion.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Margaret Higgins. He is survived by his brothers, Thomas J. Higgins and his wife Carol, of Danielsville, Pa., and David J. Higgins and his significant other Sandy Beareson, of The Villages, Fl.
Also surviving are Bill’s nephew and niece Thomas and Theresa Higgins, and Susan and Brian Adams, and his great-nephew and niece Troy and Amanda Adams.
Bill was also very close with his adopted nieces Liz Proffitt and her children Robbie and Brendan Grieb; Karen Burke and her children Amber Lynn, Logan and Ashley Burke, as well as Karen’s late husband David Burke, and her late mother, Bill’s dear friend, Marilyn Grieb.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, from 8:00-9:30AM.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Church, Manasquan at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 4742 N. 24th Street Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016. Condolences may be sent via www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
