Obituary for Barbara Ann McGoff (Onderwater )

Barbara Ann McGoff, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 after a courageous fight with non-small cell lung cancer. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her family at her home in Point Pleasant. Barbara was born in the Bronx and moved with her parents, James and Ann Onderwater, to Ridgefield, NJ as a child. She was a graduate of Dwight Morrow HS. Barbara met her husband, Robert (Bob), while visiting Point Pleasant Beach, and the couple moved to Point Pleasant, NJ after their marriage in 1959. On May 9th, Barbara and Bob celebrated 59 years of happy marriage. Over the last 59 years, Barbara and Bob poured their heart and soul into the business they owned and operated, Briggs Transportation in Point Pleasant Beach.

Barbara was a communicant of St. Martha’s RC Church in Point Pleasant. She dedicated her life to her family, her business and her church. Her favorite times were spent with her grandchildren attending soccer games, band concerts and dance recitals. Barbara also enjoyed her travel time with family and friends. Barbara lived an exceptional life, and she will forever be remembered as a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. The depth of her kindness, compassion and generosity is unmatched. “A life not lived for others, is not a life.” - Mother Theresa

She is predeceased by her parents, James and Anna Onderwater, and her brother John Onderwater. Surviving are her beloved husband, Robert McGoff; her four daughters, Susan Prima and her husband Henno, Nancy McGoff, Laura Hannon and her husband John and Barbara Favato and her husband Michael; her nine grandchildren, Kevin, Lauren, Ryan, Michael, Connor, Joseph, Robert, Nancy and Natalie; and her sister-in-laws, Paula Onderwater and Karen Byrne.

The viewing will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 from 4-9 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martha’s RC Church, Point Pleasant followed
by the interment at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Point Pleasant Boro First Aid, Operation Smile and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
