Obituary for Theresa Brazee (Kilcooley)

Theresa Brazee (Kilcooley)
Theresa (Kilcooley) Brazee of Avon-by-the-Sea, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 2nd, 2018. Theresa and her husband Norman celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary a few days before she passed. She would have celebrated her 84th birthday on August 12th. In addition to her beloved husband, Theresa is survived by her three children Terry Spoleti, Bud Brazee and Maura Cioffi and their spouses Chris Spoleti, Jana Brazee and Mike Cioffi; and seven adored grandchildren Kate and Collin Spoleti; Patrick, Brendan and Alanna Cioffi; and Remie and Brianna Brazee. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Delario, Eileen Daley, Pat Kilcooley, John Kilcooley and Steve Kilcooley. She was predeceased by her dear younger sister Helen Richards and parents John and Anna Kilcooley

Theresa grew up in New York City and moved with Norman to Rockland County in 1964 where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends. Twenty-five years ago they moved to Avon, N.J. to begin an active life of retirement. Their home on Washington Avenue was the hub of activity and connecting with family and friends where many memories were made - annual Memorial Day parties, days on the front porch, endless meals and glasses of wine around the kitchen island, mah jong with the ladies and poker with the kids, beach chairs and sandy towels filling the backyard (but never in the front!), with Irish music typically playing throughout the house. Her kids and grandkids, nieces and nephews, friends and ‘blow-ins’ spent many days being fed and entertained by Theresa - who was renowned for her culinary skills and amazing abilities to make a feast for 20 with an hour’s notice. Theresa loved visiting with friends at the Belmar Fishing Club and playing mahjong with her good pals whenever they could pull together a game. She was an active member of the Ascension Parish, (which was coincidentally the name of her parish growing up in Manhattan) in Bradley Beach where she and Norman helped run the Food Pantry for many years.

Theresa’s family request that in lieu flowers, donations be made to Palliative Care at Home, Meridian Health Foundation, 1340 Campus Parkway, Building C – Unit #4, Neptune, NJ 07753.

Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall Township, N.J., 07719 (732-449-6900), on Friday August 3, 2018, from 5-9 P.M. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Church, 501 Brinley Ave, Bradley Beach, N.J. on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 10 A.M. Burial will take place privately, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York, at the family’s convenience.
