Obituary for Mae Valenziano

Mae Valenziano, age 92, left this world peacefully on September 16, 2018 to join Frank, her husband of 64 years and the love of her life.

Mae was born in Staten Island, New York, on March 21, 1926. She was one of six close children of Petrina and Charles Giorlando. She graduated from Manhattanville College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, where she and Frank settled to raise their five children. Later in life, Mae decided to go back to school to get her Master’s degree in Special Education and teach special needs children at Summit Jr. High School.

Mae was an incredibly devoted wife to Frank, and a wonderful mother to Carl, Philip, Frank, Angela, and Mark. She treasured her 14 grandchildren more than anything and was happy to babysit whenever possible. She loved to cook delicious meals, entertain, play bridge, and she loved to quiz her children on the arithmetic times table while preparing dinner at the kitchen island. She enjoyed daily mass and spending time with neighbors and friends.

Mae was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank and her two oldest sons, Carl and Philip. She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Kate and Maureen, children Frank (Stephanie), Angela Ross, Mark (Lori), 14 terrific grandchildren and six adorable great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be on Friday, September 21, at O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, NJ, from 4-8pm. Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Denis RC Church in Manasquan, NJ, on Saturday, September 22, at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Silver Mount Cemetery, Staten Island.
