Obituary for Virginia E. McGovern (Noel)

Virginia E. McGovern, 90, of Avon-by-the-Sea, died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Virginia moved to Avon in 1989. She was a graduate of St. Dominic’s Academy, Jersey City. After having raised a family of four, Virginia became an administrative assistant for the Jersey City YMCA and, later, the Neptune Township Education Association until her retirement. She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Avon, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and Bible Study.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband Philip F. McGovern, Sr., her son John M. McGovern, and her brother Richard Noel. Surviving are her children and their spouses: Jane Dalton and her husband John of Sayreville, NJ; Elizabeth Cronen and her husband Vincent of Westfield, NJ; and Philip F. McGovern, Jr. and his wife Diana of Nutley, NJ. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, John Dalton Jr., Carolyn Dellisanti, Kathryn Cronen, William Cronen, Philip McGovern, Madeline McGovern, and 2 great grandchildren; Liliana and Emilia Dellisanti.
Burial will be private. A memorial service to be announced at a later date will be held at the Parish of St. Teresa of Calcutta at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Avon-by -the -Sea, NJ. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers please donate to the John McGovern Scholarship Fund at St. Peter’s Prep, Jersey City, NJ.
