Obituary for Ann Dolores DeRogatis (McGuire)

Ann McGuire DeRogatis, 86, of Brick passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018 at home. Mrs. DeRogatis, known to many as “Annie”, retired as a shipping clerk at Liberty Optical Inc. in Newark. She worked as a real estate agent for the Berg Agency and the Ackernack Agency in Bloomfield. She also was a Teacher’s Aid at the FN Brown Elementary School for special needs children in Verona. More recently, she was a personal care assistant and nanny for the Mostowy and Piazza families.
Annie’s family was her life. She enjoyed roles as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, and was a Girl Scout leader in Bloomfield and Glen Ridge. She was a dedicated member of the Glen Ridge High School Music Parents Association. She so loved her 8 years involvement with the Glen Ridge High School Marching Band.
She cherished relaxing at the Manasquan Inlet with coffee and good company. She had a great time at summer concerts on Jenkinson’s Beach, especially listening with her family and friends.
Annie was a devout catholic. A communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in Bloomfield for many years, Mount Carmel RC Church in Montclair, she was most recently a parishioner St. Martha’s RC Church in Point Pleasant.
Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Bloomfield, Winter Park, FL and Glen Ridge before moving to Brick in 2002.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Matt Emidio DeRogatis in 2002; her parents, James and Mary McGuire; son, Sgt. George DeRogatis in 2009; daughter, Kathleen DeRogatis; brothers, Sgt. James McGuire and Edward P. McGuire; sisters, Sister Marie McGuire, (Sisters of Christian Charity) and Margaret Christley; and her grandson, Anthony Peteya.
Surviving are her daughters, Susan Peteya and her husband, Mark of Bloomfield, and Colleen Hornblum Piazza and her husband Gregory Piazza; son, Matthew DeRogatis of Livingston and Brick; 9 grandchildren, Nicholas, Joseph, Mark, Jesse and his wife, Elsie, Dylan, Julia, Noah, Michael and his wife, Keri and Alex and his wife, Erin; 2 great grandchildren, Riley and Jacob. She leaves behind many devoted cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as an expectant great grandchild in a few weeks.
Visiting will be on Friday, October 5, from 5-9pm, and Saturday October 6 from 9-10 am at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday October 6 at 10:30 am at St. Martha’s RC Church, Point Pleasant. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, she requested to consider a donation in her memory to Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210 (ewtn.com). Annie joined the Fransiscan Friars daily for mass on TV, and reciting of the holy rosary.
