Ruth Schreiner Zach, of Spring Lake Hts., NJ died Tuesday, March 31, 2015. She was born in Tremont, PA, came to NJ 1953 and has lived in Spring Lake Heights for the past 45 years. Ruth was a graduate from Kutztown University, PA where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education, and later her master’s degree from Monmouth University, NJ. Throughout her life, Ruth was active in her teaching career, as well as various community services, civic activities and service clubs.
Ruth taught both full and part time in Pennsylvania, and at the shore area schools in Monmouth County; Asbury Park H.S., Brielle Elementary School, Wall Township Schools and Spring Lake Heights Elementary School.
She was a past president of the Spring Lake Heights PTA, a cub scout Den Mother three times, and a Little League Auxiliary Mother. She served as the Vice President of the former Spring Lake Library Association, and was also a life member of the Spring Lake Historical Society and Belmar Arts Council. Ruth also chaired many positions in the American Association of University of Women since 1980. Ruth was an active member of the Spring Lake Women’s Club for the past 20 years since 1987, where she served as Vice President, and chaired many various committees. Ruth enjoyed her membership in the Spring Lake Garden Club, which enhanced her love of flowers and nature.
Volunteer organizations on which Ruth was a member and served are the Deborah Hospital, Jersey Shore Medical Center, and Monmouth Symphony Orchestra. Ruth loved painting, all music, and enjoyed singing in high school and at church. In college, she was president of the Nu Phi Mu Sorority and also a member the Latin Club and Art Club. She also sang in her school choir. She particularly enjoyed painting in oils and received a first place Penn State art prize for her landscape painting.
Being an avid reader, Ruth belonged to several Book Clubs and enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles. She loved the outdoors, especially her days at the Spring Lake beach and long walks at Allaire State Park with her husband and daughter.
Her greatest loved were her husband , four children, and her loving pets Sherlock, Jenny, Missy, Troubles and Claw as well as all wild birds and animals. She enjoyed great friendships and fellowship with her wonderful friends of St. Andrew’s Methodist Church. They are very loving and kind women.
Ruth’s husband Joseph died in October of 2009. Surviving is her caring daughter Robyn Leigh and her three wonderful sons; Joseph G., Gregory S., and Jeffrey B. She is also survived by her three nephews, Ronald, Thomas and Allen, Carol and Joy. She also has a five great nieces and nephews.
A memorial visiting will be Friday, from 2-4 & 5-7 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home Wall. A memorial church service will be held Saturday, 11 AM at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church, Spring Lake. Her urn will be interred with her husband in Atlantic View Cemetery in Manasquan, with some of the ashes to be scattered over the ocean in Spring Lake where she daily took her four children to the beach which she loved for many idyllic summers.
