Obituary for Giuseppina Vella (Grillo)

Giuseppina Grillo Vella, 95, of Howell, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2016 surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Licata, Scicily, Italy to the late Carlo and Catarina Grillo, she moved to the United States in April of 1956 and resided in Brooklyn before moving to Howell 33 years ago. She was a communicant of St. William the Abbott Church in Howell. Giuseppina was a devoted wife and mother, who enjoyed the quality time spent with her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Giuseppe Vella in 1996, and her dear son Gaetano Vella in 2010. Surviving are her loving children, Maria Morterud (Anthony Portello), Carlo Vella (Linda), and Angelo Vella (Barbara), daughter-in-law- Theresa Vella, her cherished grandchildren, Maria (Jerome), Tina (Don), Eric(Lisa), Carl (Bonnie), Cristina (Joey), Joseph (Katie), Joseph (Denise), Frankie, Justine (Wes), and Barbie, and her 13 great grandchildren, and many extended family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Tuesday, February 16th at St. William the Abbott R.C. Church, 2740 Lakewood-Allenwood Road, Howell. Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Giuseppina’s memory to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
